The Sacramento Shamrock'n
So excited for this Sunday! The Shamrock'n Half Marathon was my first race ever (back in 2008 it had a 5k alongside the half) and as such it means a lot to me. It's only been 2 years and since then I've gone from doing 5ks to 10ks to Half Marathons to my first 26.2 . I love looking back on this race and seeing how far I have come not only in running, but in life!
Some other reasons I'm excited for this race:
- First race of the year
- First race since California International Marathon
- First race for my friend @jkpiccolo !
- Halfway point in training (approx) for the San Francisco Marathon
- A fun race in my hometown
- Daylight Saving Time is a bumout, but heralds the beginning of spring!
At the urging of my wife I decided to wait, and did the American River Parkway as my first half. Which was a disaster but that's a whole nother poster! If I don't PR Sunday I'm not going to beat myself up but I am going to enjoy pushing myself to see just what I've got.
Race day is unlike any training day. There's just something about going out with a huge mass of humanity all pursuing a common goal, the adrenalin surge is hard to describe. It's as perfect of a day to really see where your training has taken you, and I'm excited to see!
Good luck to everyone running!
A shout out to the following folks who are going for it
@cynlambert ,
@LaylaBohm
and my boy! @steverheams
You're going to rock the Shamrock!
ReplyDeleteWe should try to have a tweetup somehow. (Look for long, curly, red hair under a black Adidas visor and a blue Chicago Marathon t-shirt. That's the current plan, anyway.)
So, how was the race? Shamrock'n currently holds my half PR - I wish I was able to have done it again this year.
